Danielle and Amanda were sitting in the garden enjoying a cup of coffee while discussing the health and wellbeing work they were doing as Councillors on behalf of the Town Council. This was during the pandemic, so it was summer of 2020.
They were busy writing a summer brochure to be distributed to all the school children, a small gift to primary children and to the seniors a voucher which could be spent in a local coffee shop. This led to other work issuing food vouchers and food parcels to families in need – all this was organised through the Town Council. While discussing their next project it was Danielle who suggested that they should form their own charity, which would enable them to move faster and do more.
The idea appealed and finally blossomed into this charity called Wholesome in February 2023 with Charity Commission registration achieved during April and a bank account opened in July.
With the experience of providing families with food parcels and food vouchers it became apparent that some families wanted help with what to cook when using the ingredients they were being given when accessing emergency supplies from the Foodbank. This idea grew into the cooking workshops providing attendees with ‘Yummy, Easy, Economical Meals for All’
Building on the work providing food vouchers and food parcels, the ‘Family Fun with Lunch’ project was established to enhance the free food provision to families during school holidays with increasing activity levels and socialisation.
Wholesome continues strenghtening and sustaining families and individuals who are struggling with the cost of living with our evolving programme with the support of our partners.
